Xiaomi continues to show that the flagship smartphone competition is no longer just about who has the fastest processor. With the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, the Chinese company is instead trying to cram as much high-end technology as possible into a single device.
From the latest-generation chipset, dual 200 MP cameras, a secondary rear display, to a massive 8,500 mAh battery, everything is available in this smartphone.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max was officially introduced in China on September 23, 2026. This smartphone becomes the top-tier model of the Xiaomi 18 Pro Series family, positioned one tier above the Xiaomi 18 Pro.

6.9-Inch Display with Ultra-Slim Bezels
True to the "Pro Max" name, Xiaomi is not trying to make this smartphone small. The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max uses a 6.9-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2624 x 1208 pixels.
The panel already supports LTPO technology, allowing the refresh rate to adapt dynamically from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. Its peak brightness is claimed to reach up to 4,000 nits.
What is quite interesting is the edge of the display. Xiaomi managed to make the bezels on all four sides only about 0.99 mm thick. As a result, the front of the smartphone looks almost entirely filled by the screen.
For daily use, a screen this large is certainly enjoyable for watching movies, playing games, reading documents, and editing photos. The consequence is also clear: this is not the type of smartphone made for users looking for a small and lightweight phone.
The Rear Display is Not Just for Show
One of the traits that makes the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max instantly recognizable is the secondary display on the back.
Xiaomi has installed a roughly 2.9-inch OLED screen within the camera module area. This screen can be used to view notifications, run shortcuts, display various app cards, and even act as a viewfinder when taking photos using the rear cameras.
The concept of a rear screen is not entirely new. However, Xiaomi's approach this time feels more sensible because its functionality goes beyond being just a decorative display.
Imagine wanting to take a high-quality selfie. Users do not have to rely on the front camera. The 200 MP main camera can be used to shoot faces while still seeing the framing through the rear display.
Small things like this might actually become features that are used more often than features that look advanced on paper but are rarely touched after a few weeks.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 as the Main Engine
Clearing the performance bar, the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is also one of the first smartphones to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6.
Qualcomm's flagship chipset uses a 2 nm fabrication process and is a higher-tier variant compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 used in the Xiaomi 18 Pro.
To accompany the chipset, Xiaomi provides up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1 TB of UFS 4.1 internal storage.
A combination like this is clearly not built just for opening WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok.
Users who frequently play heavy games, record high-resolution video, edit photos, use AI features, or run many applications simultaneously will be the ones who can truly make the most of this hardware.
Xiaomi has also prepared a cooling system with a heat dissipation area of about 5,513 mm² on the Pro Max version to help maintain performance when the phone is under heavy loads.
Dual 200 MP Leica Cameras
The camera department is arguably one of the strongest reasons to consider the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max.
Instead of just packing a single 200 MP camera as a spec-sheet gimmick, Xiaomi has included two 200 MP sensors at once.
The setup consists of a 200 MP main camera, a 200 MP periscope telephoto camera, and a 50 MP ultrawide camera. The camera system is once again developed in partnership with Leica.
The main camera uses a 1/1.28-inch Light Fusion 960L sensor with OIS. Meanwhile, the 200 MP telephoto camera has a focal length equivalent to 75 mm, OIS, and approximately 3.2x optical zoom. This telephoto camera can also focus from a distance of about 12 cm, making it useful for close-up shots.
However, a large resolution does not automatically make photo results better.
What is more interesting is how Xiaomi processes these large sensors. The 200 MP resolution provides more room for cropping and zooming, while Leica's processing and computational photography will heavily dictate colors, dynamic range, detail, and low-light photo results.
For the front camera, Xiaomi equips it with a 50 MP sensor.
8,500 mAh Battery, Approaching Power Bank Territory
A few years ago, a 5,000 mAh battery was already considered large. The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max pushes that number much further.
The Chinese version uses a silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of 8,500 mAh. The smartphone also supports 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging.
Such a large capacity is fascinating because Xiaomi is still able to maintain the device's form factor as a regular flagship smartphone.
Simply put, the advantage of a massive battery doesn't mean users have to use it for two or three days without charging. Rather, there is another convenience: users do not need to constantly check the battery indicator.
Using navigation, cameras, hotspots, video streaming, and gaming all in one day should still leave plenty of breathing room for usage.
HyperOS 4 and AI Features
The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max runs HyperOS 4.
In China, Xiaomi also introduced Super XiaoAI 2.0 based on the MiMo AI model. The system is designed to understand context, execute multiple tasks, control smart home devices, and work across devices such as smartphones, tablets, and computers.
There is also a customizable AI button to trigger specific functions.
However, the global AI experience will likely not be identical to the Chinese version. Service integrations, languages, and AI features are usually tailored to each respective market.
IP69 Durability to UWB
As a flagship, its supporting features are also quite comprehensive.
The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max features IP66, IP68, and IP69 certifications, an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, NFC, and UWB or Ultra-Wideband support.
UWB technology can be used, among other things, for high-precision short-range device communication, including digital car key features on compatible vehicles.
The Pro Max model also gets a triple-speaker configuration that sets it apart from most typical flagship smartphones.
